Never done a murder mystery before? Perfect.

This is not a live show where you sit, watch, and sometimes participate. Interactive means that YOU are an active and engaged part of the story.

Lost Valley Mysteries isn't about memorizing lines or being a good actor. It's about stepping into someone else's shoes, gathering clues, and figuring out whodunit alongside other guests who are just as suspicious as you are.

You'll receive your character assignment before the event — a name, a backstory, some secrets, and connections to the other guests. From the moment you arrive, you're not yourself anymore. You're someone with a motive, an alibi, and something to hide.

Lost Valley:

The Rules of Play

Character Assignments

  • Before the event, we'll send you a short form to help us assign characters that fit your comfort level. Here's what we'll ask:

    • Your name and preferred pronouns: We'll match you with a character that aligns with how you'd like to be addressed (male, female, non-binary, or no preference).

  • Your involvement level:

    • Level 1 — I want to be in the spotlight with lots of secrets and drama.

    • Level 2 — I'm happy to participate but don't need to be the center of attention.

    • Level 3 — I prefer to observe more and participate lightly.

  • No matter which level you choose, you'll still get a character with a backstory, secrets, and connections to the other guests. The difference is how much you're expected to drive the action.

    • Level 1 characters tend to have big reveals, confrontations, or pivotal clues.

    • Level 2 characters are solid participants with interesting secrets but less pressure.

    • Level 3 characters have lighter roles — you're still part of the story, but you can hang back and let others take the lead.

  • We'll do our best to match you with your preferred level, but character assignments also depend on which roles still need to be filled and what's available at the time you register. Some flexibility is needed to make sure the full story works. Rest assured — every character matters to the mystery.

  • Your character assignment will arrive via email a few days before the event. Open it, read it, and come ready to play.

How to Play

  • The Three-Act Structure: The game moves through three stages.

    • Act I: Break the ice, establish your character, and discover motives.

    • Act II: The investigation begins! Focus on Opportunity—who was where and what did they see?

    • Act III: The final reveal. Focus on Means—how was it done?

  • You are searching for Motive, Opportunity, and Means. You must determine: Who did it, with what, how, and why?

  • If your character is the victim, you stay in the game! You didn't see the killer's face, so you must still help solve your own murder.

  • After Act III, everyone will vote. The first person to correctly identify the killer, motive, and means wins Best Detective.

Secrets & Truths

  • You must be honest. Do not make up clues or lie about the information on your cards, as this could break the mystery for everyone else.

  • You don’t have to tell everyone everything. Use your discretion and only reveal your secrets if you are cornered or if it helps the story.

  • If a secret is important to the mystery, don’t worry—someone else likely has a clue card that will help them find it out!

How to Play Your Part

  • It is imperative for the flow of the mystery that you remain "in world" for the duration of the event.

  • The "Yes, And..." Rule: Use collaborative improv! If someone says something to you, accept their premise ("Yes") and build on it ("And"). Avoid saying "No" or "Yes, but."

  • Confrontations happen: Some confrontations between characters are scripted and will occur during Act I. If you happen to miss a confrontation, that's totally fine—the details shared are also information you'll get from others by talking.

  • Take the Limelight (or don't!):

    • If you’re bold: Be as outlandish and loud as you like!

    • If you’re reserved: Stand back, listen to conversations, and wait for others to approach you.

  • Have Fun: Above all, this is a collaborative story. Enjoy the scandal!
