Setting:
Lost Valley, Arkansas, the 1920s
THE SETUP
Prohibition is the law of the land, which means the real party is always behind a locked door. The Double Cross is the finest establishment in the county, run by Charles Sterling Sr. and his indispensable business partner Estelle Finch.
Tonight it's dressed up for a celebration — Lost Valley's own Thea Cross has returned from Hollywood a star, and her father, Mayor Archie Cross, is throwing her the homecoming she deserves. The moonshine is illegal, the jazz is extraordinary, and everyone who matters in Lost Valley is in this room.
It's the kind of night that feels charmed from the first note of Lola Price's opening set. The mayor is beaming. Thea is radiant. The drinks keep coming and the room is full of people who, on the surface, have every reason to be celebrating. Beneath that surface, old loyalties are being tested, ambitions are quietly colliding, and at least one person in this room is carrying something they didn't come to share.
Before the night is over, the party becomes a crime scene. The sheriff is already here — which is either very convenient or very suspicious, depending on how you look at it.
